How to add page numbers to a PDF
Page numbers help readers refer to a document consistently when the source has no numbering. PDFDesk adds a sequential number near the bottom center of each page, starting with the value you choose.
Open Add page numbers to PDF ↗Step-by-step instructions
- Choose your PDF.
- Choose the number to start from.
- Create and download the numbered copy.
A practical example
For a three-page appendix that follows pages 1–9 in another document, start at 10. The new pages receive 10, 11 and 12. Choose a starting integer from 1 to 999999. This tool numbers every page rather than excluding a cover or selecting a range.
Limits and common mistakes
The placement uses the underlying page coordinates. Existing page rotation or a footer already close to the bottom edge can affect how the result looks. The tool does not detect and replace numbers that are already printed on the page.
Check your downloaded result
Check the first and last number and inspect pages with existing footers or unusual orientation. Confirm that a cover page has not shifted the numbering sequence you intended. Use a copy of the original if you need to try another starting value.
Where processing happens
Your document is processed locally in your browser. Document contents are not uploaded to the PDFDesk server. Opening the website still sends ordinary connection information to the host.
